Allium lusitanicum

Many gardens have the showy alliums or edible members of the onion family, but this is a dainty alpine allium with beautiful pink/lilac flowers. It originates from the mountains and meadows of Europe.

The foliage is mid green and linear, dying back overwinter. The rounded heads of flowers are produced in July and August on stems of about 20 - 25cm. These are attractive to bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects.

Grow in a sunny position in a well drained soil.

Suitable for a wide range of situations - grow at the front of a border, in a trough or container, rock garden or in a naturalistic style in a gravel garden.
